The United States Ambassador to Lima Brian A. Nichols announced U.S. companies are highly interested in participating in Peru's reconstruction process run by the central government.

As is known, the Inca nation was at the mercy of "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon in the January-March period. The event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods, which left thousands of citizens homeless.

Mr. Nichols affirmed he had met with Authority for Reconstruction with Changes (RCC) Executive Director Pablo de la Flor, as well as Prime Minister Fernando Zavala.

The gathering addressed U.S. participation and support during the mentioned stage.

In statements to Andina news agency, the diplomat noted there are several U.S. enterprises, which had joined similar processes across the world, and are present in Peru.

In this sense, he underlined the firms have expressed interest in cooperating with Peru's reconstruction process.

Lastly, the Ambassador said a group of American engineers —who had visited Peru some years ago— will return to the Andean country to join efforts for the reconstruction of disaster-hit areas

The U.S. has contributed more than US$3.3 million through USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), which will provide further funds for the RCC process.
