Peru's Reconstruction with Changes (RCC) process to rebuild and restore areas recently hit by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon disasters will cost some S/20 billion (about US$6.4 billion), Prime Minister Fernando Zavala confirmed on Friday.

"The [RCC] law is ready. We have discussed [the matter] with the Economy Ministry, which has already issued the projection of resources to be allocated: we are talking about S/20 billion —or US$6.4 billion— for the next three years," the Cabinet Chief affirmed.

The government official underlined the process comes at a time when the Inca nation enjoys a "sound economy" as a result of savings accumulated over several years.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister addressed Pablo de la Flor's designation as RCC Executive Director, noting the official was appointed on the basis of his capacities.

"He [de la Flor] has experience in the public sector, he knows the public sphere imbroglio—which is complicated— and he has experience in the private sector, ranging from projects to social matters […]," he said.

Zavala added the newly-appointed official is also experienced in articulating ventures with local and regional governments, as well as with the civil society, which is key to pushing projects forward.

"Let us give him the opportunity, he will do very well," he affirmed.

Likewise, he anticipated the RCC Board will hold its first meeting on Monday, within the framework of an Executive Branch and Regional Governors Meeting (GORE-Executive).

Lastly, the Cabinet Chief reviewed RCC process components, namely housing, health, education, temporary jobs and roads.
