Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed the promised pay raise for teachers is becoming a reality despite the tough economic situation in the country, as a result of Coastal El Niño and Lava Jato scandal shocks.
"We are granting the pay raise we
pledged during our camping in spite of economic hardships," the President pointed out.
He explained the first pay hike, from S/1,530 (about US$468) to S/1,780 (about US$545), benefited those with a permanent appointment ("nombrados").
Peru's top official affirmed the minimum wage for those hired on a temporary basis ("contratados") will be adjusted in August.
"The salary will go up to S/2,000 (about US$612) next year, and by that I mean the base salary," he stated.
Likewise, he said, the reconstruction stage has just begun and will take two and a half years, involving an investment of US$6.50 billion.
The Peruvian leader took part in a ceremony to honor the country's best teachers, who were granted the Magisterial Palms, on the occasion of
Teacher's Day.
