11:15 | Piura (Piura region), Feb. 26.

The reconstruction process following disasters in early 2017 is already gathering momentum after a slow start due to reasons beyond the Government's control, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski underlined on Monday.

In this sense, President Kuczynski reiterated the Government's readiness to keep working non-stop in order to complete the process successfully, guaranteeing the reconstruction of areas affected by Coastal El Niño floods.

“We continue to work on the reconstruction. We got off to a slow start, but we are gathering pace and we will complete this," he assured.

The Head of State highlighted the process will call for an investment of S/7 billion (about US$2.15 billion), S/2 billion (about US$615 million) of which will be allocated to northern Piura region, one of the worst-hit by the floods.

"We keep working on the reconstruction […]. Much remains to be done, we must work," he concluded.

Remarks were made in Peru's northern Piura region, where Mr. Kuczynski inspected rehabilitation works at Catacaos-Ovalo de Bayovar Highway.

He was joined by Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz and Transport-Communications Minister Bruno Giuffra.
