Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski renewed his call for maintaining the momentum generated by the reconstruction following Coastal El Niño disasters in early 2017, whose investment is estimated at S/7 billion (about US$2.15 billion) for 2018.
Speaking after a decentralized Council of Ministers session in northern Piura region, President Kuczynski addressed the coming elections for local and regional authorities —slated for October 2018— who will take over
reconstruction works.
"New governors shall come and they shall start to learn the whole thing. You can teach those new governors. Otherwise, we will lose a lot of time and we do not want that, we must maintain the momentum to work," he affirmed.
President Kuczynski explained one of the differences in this
Reconstruction with Changes process is transparency in public procurement, which includes a substantial decrease in the cost of
highways.
The Head of State went on to list some of the progress made so far, such as
water and sanitation projects, the reconstruction of 60 bridges, as well as the rehabilitation of hundreds of kilometers of highways and rivers.
Lastly, he underlined the Government has "made progress in listening to governors, whom we will meet at the next Executive Branch - Regional Government Meetings (GORE-Executive) in Lima."
