The President of National Confederation of Private Business Associations (Confiep) Roque Benavides claimed conditions are ripe for economic rebound in Peru.

He also expressed confidence in the administration of Prime Minister Fernando Zavala, who was appointed Peru's new Economy and Finance Minister last week.

"The global economy's environment seems to be improving, generating a positive impact on Peru's gross domestic product [GDP]," he told El Peruano official gazette.

"External factors are heading towards the right direction" concerning the road to Peruvian economy's recovery.

The global economy sped up in the last quarter of 2016, a trend that is expected to continue.

Perspectives

Benavides assured the scenario will become promising as soon as events like the "Car Wash" scandal and Coastal El Niño weather phenomenon come to an end.

"It's time to resume growth; I think conditions are in place, and our country will experience better days," he underlined.

In this sense, Confiep head projects Peru's GDP will expand by 2.5% this year.
