A total of 14,494 kg of drugs were seized as a result of several police operations nationwide.

The narcotics are being destroyed at the National Police Special Forces Department facilities (former Dinoes) in Lima's eastern Ate district.

Interior Ministry (Mininter) announced such drugs include cocaine paste, cocaine hydrochloride, marijuana, as well as other narcotics such as poppy and opium alkaloids.

According to Juan Carlos Portocarrero, chief at the Organized Crime Directorate (DGCO), the material was confiscated by the National Police and stored in a warehouse.

On the other hand, National Police Director-General Richard Zubiate Talledo stressed the institution's efforts to seize such a large quantity of drugs.

Moreover, he welcomed efforts by other justice institutions such as the Public Ministry and the Judiciary in order to fight drug-trafficking.

More than 51.5 tons of narcotics have been burned so far this year, according to DGCO.

This figure exceeds the more than 32 tons of drugs burned last year.

The incineration session featured members of the congressional committee responsible for the Destruction of Drugs Seized in the Illicit Traffic, presided over by Mininter.
