The meeting between Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Thursday served to address climate change, global warming, as well as democracy and development in Latin America.

Following an audience with recently sworn-in President Macron, both leaders delivered a joint statement —in French— outside the Elysee Palace building.

The Peruvian Head of State noted the event was important, since it allowed both delegations to address subjects of common interest.

He added the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela was included in the dialogue about democracy and development in Latin America.

Furthermore, Mr. Kuczynski confirmed Peru will welcome Mr. Macron in three months.

The 39-year-old politician will attend the 2017 International Olympic Committee Session taking place in the Andean country's capital of Lima this September.

The 78-year-old leader noted Peru's interest in joining the OECD "in a reasonable period of time" had also been addressed at the event.

Mr. Macron thanked Peru for its commitment to the Paris Agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to tackle global warming.

He also deemed Peru as "an important partner" in the fields of technological cooperation, transportation and water services.
