Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday said his United States and Vatican City trips schedule cannot be modified, as it includes activities at the United Nations and meetings with high-ranking officials.
"I can't change the schedule at all. I can't make two trips," said the President in Huancaya, where he launched an initiative for water conservation.
President Kuczynski plans to travel abroad from September 15-23, first to New York City to participate in the 72nd Session of the
UN General Assembly. He is also expected to arrive in the Vatican City, for an official visit to Pope Francis.
Trip authorization —already requested by the Executive Branch to Congress— is on hold since August 25.
While in the U.S., Mr. Kuczynski will participate in a dinner that will be also attended by
President Donald Trump. He is also expected to hold a private meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary that weekend.
President's schedule
According to the request sent to Congress, the presidential schedule includes a working meeting (September 15) prior to the UN General Assembly.
On September 19, the Head of State will join the inauguration of the 72nd UN General Assembly. At the event, he will participate as speaker.
Later, Mr. Kuczynski is expected to meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and officials from countries of interest to Peru.
At the invitation of the
Bloomberg Global Business Forum, he will participate in a roundtable on the future of global trade, along with authorities from Canada,
Norway and the Netherlands, as well as entrepreneurs from China, India, Italy and the United States.
Mr. Kuczynski will also meet with Presidents of the Pacific Alliance. Said bloc is composed of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
Pope Francis
The official visit to the Vatican City will start on September 22.
That day, Mr. Kuczynski will hold a private audience with Pope Francis to express his satisfaction and that of the Peruvian people over
His Holiness' future visit to the Inca country. Likewise, both leaders will coordinate details of the trip.
Pope Francis will arrive in Peru January 18 to 21, 2018. As is customary, the hosting nation's President must personally formalize the invitation.
