Peru will be able to share its economic development experiences at the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held in Lima, WBG Chairman Jim Yong Kim affirmed today.

The executive recognized Peru's efforts aimed to improve and expand social programs, while "making a long-term commitment to the policies intended to stabilize and reinforce the economy within a transparent and prudent macroeconomic framework."

In this sense, the WBG Chairman informed that thousands of leaders from governments, private sector and civil society around the world will come to Peru within the next days, in order to enjoy this beautiful country and witness its amazing advances in development.

Experience in Peru

During the morning, Jim Yong Kim along with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and Health Minister Anibal Vasquez paid a visit to a health center located in Lima's peripheral Carabayllo district.

Decades ago, the current WBG chairman worked on a project designed to fight tuberculosis in the said district.

At the site, he considered the experience "decisive" for his future and professional development.

Thus, he thanked residents for teaching him to "do the right thing," to tackle poverty, injustice and abandonment.

"Their courage, solidarity and dignity to leave poverty behind have been an inspiration to me [...]," the WBG Chairman emphasized.
