Last weekend, the event "Siembra Montes" (Afforest the Hills) took place in La Oroya, district of Paccha, Junín.

Junin is a region located in Peru’s central highlands.

This event congregated over a thousand volunteers, who took their plants to the areas of sowing. The sowing process was surrounded by a community cohesion atmosphere.

This activity was part of the Forest Week, organized by NGO Vida, the town's Municipal Environmental Committee and other authorities.

"It is important that authorities, communities and people from La Oroya commit themselves to this kind of activities, which help to improve life's quality and mitigates the effects of the climate change in the high Andean zone of Peru," said Arturo Alfaro, president of Vida NGO.

"Since Peru will be hosting COP20, we must demonstrate in our deeds that we are committed with the environmental care by reducing gas emissions, which cause global warming," he expressed.

Members of rural communities like Paccha and La Oroya Antigua participated in this event.

NGO Vida donated the plants, which were grown in the garden center of Chulec, located in Doe Run Peru – owned lands.

"By planting trees and expanding green areas, we can fight climate change," he added.
