Peruvian Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano Bellido met today with a delegation from the United States House of Representatives, headed by Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, with whom he underscored the excellent level of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the Government Palace Andres Avelino Caceres Hall, featured the Cabinet’s Chief along with Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva and Economy and Finance Minister Alonso Segura.

“This year has been intense in terms of bilateral relations; both governments have welcomed several delegations. I think this is an excellent political signal that shows the optimal level of our diplomatic, political, economic and trade ties,” Cateriano pointed out.

He stressed the importance of the meeting between Barack Obama and Ollanta Humala in Washignton D.C. and the fact that U.S.-Peruvian relations are on an excellent footing.

Cateriano recalled that both nations are holding presidential campaigns and that sometimes political dialogue can produce different musical tones within the electoral context.

“However, the great concert between the United States and Peru has been quite positive. We are on the right track,” he pointed out.

The Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives highlighted the significance of the meeting and the solid relations between the two countries as well.

The U.S delegation was composed of congress members Richard Hanna, Lucille Roybal-Allard, Linda Sanchez, Henry Cuellar, Michelle Lujan-Grisham, Beto O’Rourke, Pete Aguilar, Ruben Gallego and Norma Torres.

Lawmakers were joined by U.S. Ambassador to Peru Brian A. Nichols.

The delegation also held meetings with former Fulbright scholars including Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva and civil society members.
