The Pacific Alliance is a key player in trade relations between Latin America and Asia, and President Barack Obama is closely monitoring its progress, U.S. Ambassador to Peru Brian A. Nichols said.

“This is a quite important trade bloc and a platform for investment, development and trade and educational exchange. The United States is committed to be a partner to achieve all that,” he told Andina news agency.

He said the Alliance accounts for half of Latin America’s foreign trade, and describes it as a key player in the Asia-Latin America trade relations. In fact, he added, it is one of the most important things in the field of foreign trade around the world, along with the TTP.

“As observer country, we have free trade agreements with the four countries of the Alliance (Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Chile), our most important socio-economic and political partners in the region,” Nichols highlighted.

The diplomat arrived in Paracas to attend the 10th Presidential Summit of the Pacific Alliance and the Business Summit held in its framework in the small beach area of Paracas, located 250 km south of Lima.

One of the highlights of the meetings prior to the Presidential arrivals was to hear cooperation proposals from the 32 observer countries of the Alliance.

Another remark involved member countries’ firm decision to move forward in a systematic way in order to join efforts and cooperate with each other.
