Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is working to bolster the Madre de Dios’ export sector and tourism industry, announced Minister Silva following the decisions taken at the meetings held by regional government officials.

“We are committed to strengthening the export sector in the region, encouraging export culture and implementing tourism development programs that foster positive social and economic impact on local communities,” noted Mincetur’s head, Magali Silva.

She said the foreign trade and tourism sector delegation was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Maria del Carmen de Reparaz, who presented the portfolio projects to be accomplished in the short- and medium-term to support the development of Madre de Dios in southeastern Peru.

The improvements include the implementation of several Amazonian viewpoints in Bajo Tambopata and a tourist corridor connecting major public spots in Puerto Maldonado.

In addition, the deputy minister announced the establishment of technological innovation centres (CITE) for handicrafts and tourism, which pass on and use new technology to make craft products and tourist services more competitive.
