Peruvian government program Sierra Exportadora will encourage the use of bamboo to protect riverside areas and prevent natural disasters such as floods, landslips and landslides, reported the president of this organization Alfonso Velasquez.

“Using bamboo is an extraordinary option due to its low cost, prompt response, acquisition of carbon offsets, the rapid commercialization of the tree plants – used in China and India – and its strength,” Velasquez told Andina news agency.

Sierra Exportadora has been insisting on this point, so the corresponding authorities are expected to be soon convinced that a lot of money can be saved with small investment, especially in times of natural disasters.

Such an investment would be used to reinforce the riverside protection and to prevent landslips and other natural disasters that may endanger locals from affected zones.

“The initiative might take more time to materialize, but I hope we can get positive results, since we have worked hard to make the use of bamboo a reality,” he added.
