Satellite sets a milestone in Peru aerospace history

The French satellite, acquired by the Peruvian Government, becomes a major milestone in the South American nation's aerospace history, Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi expressed.

President Ollanta Humala affirmed a series of Peruvian specialists joined a training program in France in this sense.

Corresponding ground station was built on a 3,700 square meter area in Punta Lobos, Pucusana, about 50 kilometers south of Lima.

Benefits

Many sectors will benefit from what is considered Latin America’s most powerful satellite, French Ambassador to Peru Fabrice Mauries highlighted.

(AstroBus-S) Peruvian satellite is being built by Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse (France) within the framework of a Government-to-Government Agreement existing between both nations.

The resolution sub-metric satellite will be the most powerful in Latin America. It is expected to accurately identify, from space, different objects on earth’s surface. Thus, it will be useful in Peru's mission to fight drugs, illegal mining and prevent natural disasters.

The ceremony saw the participation of Peru's Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi, Peruvian Air Force Major General Carlos Rodriguez Pajares and French Ambassador Fabrice Mauries.

Likewise, Peruvian Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano, Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe, Finance Minister Alonso Segura, Labor Minister Daniel Maurate, Energy and Mines Minister Rosa Maria Ortiz, Culture Minister Diana Alvarez- Calderon, Justice and Human Rights Minister Aldo Vasquez attended the event.
