The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Peru on Thursday complimented the Inca soccer team on their victory against New Zealand, which means Peruvians managed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Jefferson Farfan and Christian Ramos on Wednesday night scored against the All Whites to reach the World Cup tournament for the first time since 1982, sealing the last ticket to Russia with a 2-0 win.

"Congratulations, Peru! Congratulations, Peruvian squad! Welcome to Russia 2018 [...]," the Russian diplomatic delegation posted on Twitter.

It must be noted this is not the first time Russia's Embassy congratulates the team's performance.

It complimented the Inca squad following victories against Ecuador, and the scoreless draw in Argentina at South America's Qualifiers.

Russian Ambassador to Peru Andrei Guskov also praised the team's technical staff for such qualification.

"After so many years, Peru will return to a World Cup event," the diplomat told RPP radio and TV station.

"The squad proved they deserved to be ranked among FIFA's top 10 teams. They gave an incredible performance last night, and we all share the joy and happiness," he concluded.
