Between 10,000 and 15,000 domestic, foreign tourists are expected to visit several provinces across Piura region during the long holiday weekend marking Peru’s Independence Day, Foreign Trade and Tourism Regional Director Ronald Savitzky Olaya informed.

This month the region will launch a pilot project named Preferential Tourist Route, whose circuit starts at the airport, passes through Catacaos, Sullana, Talara, Los Organos and Cabo Blanco to finally end in Mancora.

“It has been officially launched in September, but it will be run as a pilot this month. Necessary actions were coordinated with the Police to further ensure security of visitors,” Savitzky Olaya stated.

He went on to add that beach areas are expected to draw most of the vacationers, but other destinations are being promoted, too.

Savitsky assured they have worked to eliminate tourists' concern about Dengue fever in Piura. He recalled that Mancora tourist arrivals dropped from 10,000 to 3,000 on Holy Week for that reason, but the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism informed the virus has already been controlled.

Tourism Department Director Norelia Garcia pointed out that both Canchaque and El Angolo Game Preserve sites are being promoted this moth due to the increasing popularity of these areas among tourists.

Owners of restaurants, hotels and transportation companies have been trained since June, so that they can optimize the service they provide.
