Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto hoped bilateral relations between Mexico and Peru to become closer and "more fraternal" by reaffirming the friendship shared by both nations.

Remarks were made once Peña Nieto was honored with the Francisco Bolognesi Military Order in the Grade of Grand Cross and the Order of the Great Admiral Miguel Grau in the Grade of Grand Cross.

The ceremony took place at the Libertador Hotel in Paracas city, where the 10th Summit of the Pacific Alliance is currently being held.

In this sense, the Mexican Head of State highlighted not only the cultural exchange and the affinity existing between both nations, but also their history and common language.

“We are working to widen the roads, which will enable the policies both governments follow […] to allow our societies to build a better future and a greater prosperity,” he told.

He thanked the Peruvian government for the decorations received, which were granted by Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi.

On Friday, July 3, the Pacific Alliance's Presidential Summit will take place. Heads of State will sign the Paracas Declaration during the closing ceremony.

The Alliance, composed of Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru, is an economic and trade integration mechanism that seeks to build a deep integration area to achieve free movement of goods, services, capitals and people; as well as to promote greater growth, development and competiveness of its economies.

Furthermore, it is aimed at becoming an economic, trade integration platform with worldwide projection and special emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region.
