08:47 | Pretoria (South Africa), Aug. 12.

The 2nd Peruvian Gastronomic Festival was held in South Africa with cooking demonstrations by Peruvian chef Ricardo Quispe and South African counterpart Mosa Mokgoera.

The culinary event ran through August 7, spreading the word on the many trade, investment and tourism opportunities the Inca country has to offer.

The first demonstration took place during the celebrations marking the 196th anniversary of Peru's Independence from Spain.

This constituted South Africa's first experience with Nikkei —miscegenation of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine— and Chifa —fusion cuisine that emerged from the Chinese community in Peru— foods.

Likewise, the popular Life Grand Café in Pretoria served a tasting menu featuring six Peruvian signature dishes, delighting South African palates on August 1-2.

It must be noted quinua acevichada and tacu tacu con mariscos have been included in the eatery's daily menu.

On the other hand, August 4 marked the first Ceviche Night offering a variety of seafood dishes and pisco sours that pleased all attendees.

Moreover, guests enjoyed a wide range of musical and dance performances that showcased the Andean nation's cultural heritage.

Lastly, a Peruvian culinary workshop was held on August 7. The activity gathered Peruvian and South African chefs, as well as cooks from other embassies.

The food festival was an initiative led by the Peruvian Embassy in South Africa in a bid to introduce and showcase Peruvian cuisine in the African nation.
