Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo reported that Peruvian exports reached US$10.339 billion at the end of the first two-month period of 2024, up 9.1% compared to last year.

This result was due to the increase in sales of minerals (19.8%), farming products (13%), chemicals (5.4%), and metallurgical goods (2.7%).

"The start of 2024 has been good. Trade in goods - which groups exports and imports - has closed the first two-month period at 6.6%," Minister Galdo emphasized.

"To stay on this positive path, we will continue to promote the trade negotiations that have taken place, with the aim of increasing the number of markets for our products," she added.

Traditional exports

According to the Monthly Foreign Trade Report, shipments of traditional goods accumulated US$7.305 billion (an increase of 14.6%) between January and February, driven by sales of minerals such as copper (16.6%) and gold (66.1%), which have China and India among their main destinations, respectively.

Traditional agricultural exports also saw growth. Sales of coffee (66.8%) and sugar (33.4%) allowed the sector to add US$152 million during the first two months of the year, up 62.8% compared to the first two-month period of 2023.

Non-traditional exports

Although there has been a slight drop in shipments of non-traditional goods due to a slight reduction in fishing and textile sales, agricultural, chemical, and metallurgical exports experienced a rise at the end of February.

The increased trade in goods was driven by higher trade relationships with Asian countries (17.1%), mainly India (137%), which stands as Peru's sixth trading partner in the world and second in Asia.
