Peru's seafood sector seeks to drive sales to U.S.

Peruvian seafood shipments to the United States will grow faster by strengthening strategic alliances with warehouse membership stores and supercenter stores of such country, said the Trade and Investment Promotion Office of Peru in Los Angeles (California).
The trade office explained that within the structure of the U.S. retail channel, the supermarkets are those with the best growth prospects for Peruvian seafood exports in the coming years.

Moreover, it noted that in the United States supermarkets continue to lead sales of seafood with a 70 percent at the end of 2012.

The office in charge of the expansion of Peru's exportable offer in western United States stated that according to the characteristics of the American seafood market, the most promising opportunities for Peruvian supply of seafood are in the segment of frozen products.

In pursuing this aim, it pointed out that Peruvian seafood producers should develop a more innovative and higher value-added products, easy to prepare, with a high nutritional content and competitive prices.

The American seafood sector has consolidated a growth of 14.6 percent in retail sales in recent years, and it is estimated that in 2012 this sector totaled US$ 16 billion.
