Peruvian Judoka Alonso Wong has been ranked first in the continent by the polls of the Pan American Judo Confederation, the Olympic Sports Association of Peru (ADO Peru) announced Thursday.

“To be on the first place has taken me a long path of sacrificing time. Things were not easy for me, these years of hard work, this makes it all worth,” the 21-year-old sportsman told Andina news agency.

The world-class athlete stressed he looks forward the day to participate at the Rio Summer Olympic Games, which is to be held in Brazil in 2016, where he pledged to meet all the expectations this high-performance sport demands.

Wong grabbed the silver medal at the 2013 Pan American U21 Championships in the 66 kilogram judo division and achieved the gold-medal performance at this year's South American Games, held in Santiago, Chile.
