Congress authorized Second Vice-President Mercedes Araoz to preside over the 2017 IOC High-Level Commission, in a move to secure Peru's success as host of the 130th IOC Session in Lima.

As is known, the Peruvian State appointed her as the Chairwoman of the 130th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session's coordination commission.

Set to take place on September 13 this year, the 130th IOC Session will see the election of the host city for the 2024 Olympic Games between candidates: Los Angeles (USA) and Paris (France).

"This event is a great opportunity [for Peru], since it promotes the country's image as tourist destination and boosts its positioning worldwide," Araoz said in a previous Facebook post.

The commission will articulate efforts to guarantee Peru's success as host of the upcoming gathering.

Said special delegation will be also composed of Ministers of: Foreign Affairs; Economy and Finance; Foreign Trade and Tourism; Education; Housing, Construction and Sanitation; Health; Interior; and Culture.
