Peru, world’s leading culinary destination for fifth consecutive year

El Perú se impuso a países como Francia, Japón, Italia, México y España, entre otros.

For the fifth time, Peru was named World's Leading Culinary Destination by World Travel Awards (WTA) 2016's global edition, consolidating itself as a top gastronomic destination worldwide, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) announced today.

The recognition was possible thanks to articulated efforts between Peru’s government and private sector to place value on the entire production chain of this major industry again, the agency said.

The best among the best

It is worth noting Peru prevailed over other top global cuisines, such as France, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Thailand.

The prize adds to various previous awards, including the title of South America's Leading Culinary Destination on WTA’s regional edition last July, also for the fifth time in a row.

Commonly known as the "Tourism Oscars," the World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel tourism and hospitality industry. This year, WTA celebrated its 23rd edition with a ceremony in The Maldives.

View towards the future

To consolidate Peruvian cuisine’s position in the world, PromPeru has recently presented the fourth generation of Peruvian chefs, comprised of 50 youth from all over the country.

The agency highlights the need to support the development of these young talents, who have committed to actively represent Peru abroad as the country’s culinary ambassadors.

“They will be the ones to carry on with the work of a generation that has greatly contributed to our gastronomy’s tradition, history and recognition,” PromPeru affirms.

In this sense, the young chefs have been entrusted with the task of preserving Peruvian culinary tradition, while taking it to new levels using their creativity.
