On the occasion of Labor Day on May 1, the Head of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) Anibal Sanchez informed the employed urban population grew 9.6% (up by 1,054,100 people) during the 2010-2015 period
In 2015, urban employment expanded by 1.4% (up by 162,200 people).
The working population in rural areas fell 5.5% (down by 225,000 people) between 2010 and 2015 and 1% in 2015 (by 40,200).
The male working group posted a 6.5% (545,900 men) increase, while employed women rose 283,200, up by 4.2%.
In 2015, male and female working populations expanded by 1% (90,700) and 0.5% (31,400), respectively.
It should be noted that the employed urban population aged 25 years and above had better chances to enter the labor market in the past five-year period.
Sanchez said 15,918,900 Peruvian citizens are expected to join Labor Day celebrations, according to the Peru National Household Survey, or Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (ENAHO).
