Investments in tourism infrastructure have totaled S/241 million (about US$73.03 million) to date.

The amount is 2.5 times higher than investments by the previous administration, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva reported on Monday.

Such fund was mainly allocated to major projects such as the Kuelap cable-car system (Amazon region), Yarinacocha boardwalk (Ucayali) and Lima Art Museum (MALI) restoration.

Tucume Museum, Eten Port's boardwalk (Lambayeque), Marcahuasi renovation (Lima) among others stood out as well.

Silva informed the current administration leaves 75 new tourism products thanks to coordinated efforts undertaken along with regional authorities.

"[...] we must keep working. These investments enable the private sector to get a proper response from State; thus, it will decide to inject capitals in the sector," the official indicated.

According to the Hotel Association of Peru (SHP), a total of US$1.141 billion will be invested in 62 new projects nationwide between 2017 and 2021.
