Peru to host OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum in 2013

18:05 | Lima, Nov. 20 (ANDINA).

Peru will play host to the OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum (LACF) in September 2013, the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property (Indecopi) announced Tuesday.

The LACF was launched in April 2003 by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as a joint effort to foster effective competition law and policy in Latin America.

After years of work in the region, the Forum came as a concrete means for the two organizations to promote dialogue, consensus building and networking among policy makers and enforcers.

LACF meetings are held once a year in a Latin American country with the partnership/support of a host competition authority. In 2012, the LACF celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Participants are senior officials of Latin American and Caribbean competition institutions. Competition experts from OECD countries and international organisations also attend to provide additional perspectives and experience on the various topics under discussion.

According to Indecopi, Peru was chosen as next year's host country in part because of its strong economy, sustained GDP growth and progress in the country's poverty reduction.
