Peru will keep on taking the lead towards growth in Latin America, affirmed President Ollanta Humala, who noted the solid foundations that underpin the Peruvian economy amid the difficult international context.

In a press conference with foreign media on Sunday night, the Peruvian leader underlined that most international financial institutions, such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, confirm this estimate.

“Our growth throughout last year was double that of Latin America’s average growth,” he said after recalling Barack Obama’s recent statements that Peru has become the world’s "envy" due to its outstanding economic growth.

He went on to add that even though entities’ figures may vary, the foundation that supports Peru’s growth above the region’s benchmarks is solid.

While analyzing the Peruvian economy at the international level, he stressed it registers positive figures despite the global downturn, the fall in mineral, oil prices and the growth reduction of Peru’s main partners, such as China.
