Peru on Tuesday inked a deal to buy 2,108 smart patrol cars for its National Police—PNP under a government-to-government offset agreement with South Korea.

The contract was signed by Peru’s Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe, Vice President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Jeong Oh Ham and, Vice President of Daewoo International Corporation (DWIC) Chan-Kun Han.

The signing ceremony was joined by Peru’s Deputy Interior Minister Leoncio Delgado Uribe and Director-General of the National Police General Vicente Romero Fernandez.

“This is the largest acquisition of patrol cars the State has ever made,” Minister Perez said during the ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The present purchase —worth S/.279 million or US$83 million— was declared of national interest through the supreme decree No. 007-2015-IN and will help reshape the police vehicle fleet.

The new vehicles will serve the same purposes of the ones previously acquired by Humala’s administration, but they will also exhibit significant improvements.
