The Peruvian Government continues expanding 'Cuna Mas' social program coverage, thus benefiting 151,716 children under three years of age, as well as pregnant women from the country's urban and rural zones.
According to Cuna Mas Executive Director Patricia Balbuena, this social program is close to reaching 160,000 beneficiaries, its goal for 2017.
The objective is to allow Peruvians —residing in highly vulnerable areas— to achieve development during
early childhood.
That is a total of 97,837 people, which accounts for 94.5% of the goal set at 100,000 beneficiaries for December.
Such service covers rural areas hit by poverty and extreme poverty, through weekly visits to families composed of pregnant women or
children younger than 36 months old.
During each session, participative dialogue takes place in order to foster healthy and childcare practices, as well as the importance of play and interaction activities between parents and children.
Cuna Mas services are tailored to the needs and customs of families residing in the country's remote highland and rainforest areas.
