Peru’s Deputy Minister of Mines Guillermo Shinno highlighted Peru’s rank as second producer of silver in the world during the beginning of the ‘Peru Day’ introduction round at PDAC 2016, a mining conference held in Toronto, Canada.

“In 2015, Peru ranked second as silver producer, climbing one position compared to 2014. Likewise, our country has the largest silver reserve in the world, accounting for 21% of the world reserves,” he pointed out.

During the “Peru’s Mining Sector as a Key Pillar for the Country’s Economic Growth,” Shinno, who leads the Peruvian delegation at PDAC (Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada), noted the wealth of the country’s mining resources, as well as the Peruvian State’s friendly legal framework for investors.

Peru holds third place in world’s copper and zinc reserves. Last year the mining sector contributed 13% of the national gross domestic product (GDP).

Nearly 62% of Peru’s exports consist of mining products, and copper is the most exported mineral.

“We believe there are still opportunities for investors in Peru despite low mining prices. Figures show that there is still much to explore and develop in our country,” Shinno stated.
