South Korea will support Peru in research activities related to agriculture and livestock that are being conducted by the National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA), the Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) reported Monday.
The Agriculture Minister, Milton Von Hesse, stated this cooperation will be done through the next installment of a permanent research centre of the Korea Project on International Agriculture (KOPIA) in Peru.

After a meeting with KOPIA's director to Peru, Kim Siju, and INIA's head, Juan Florez, the minister noted South Korea is a reliable partner of great technological and scientific level, and stressed this advance technology centre will help improve the productivity and quality of crops like quinoa.

Thus, KOPIA will provide technical, financial, and material cooperation to carry out a range of activities from agricultural development projects to training of Peruvian researchers by Korean experts and researches.

The establishment of the high-tech agricultural center will be carried out within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between INIA and the Rural Development Administration of Korea (RDA) in July 2012.

Moreover, Kopia will provide its knowledge to implement the National Center for Quinoa and Andean Grains which has been designing by the INIA.

For his part, Kim Siju commended the efforts made by the two countries to promote technical cooperation ties in the field of agricultural research.
