Peru's government is committed to strengthening the inter-American system and respect the freedom of expression, which is tied to democracy in the region, said the Andean nation's Foreign Minister Eda Rivas.
The senior Ollanta Humala administration official highlighted the importance of debating “Development with Social Inclusion” as the focus of the 44th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Moreover, she claimed the OAS can address an issue which concerns the region as a whole, in which the Peruvian Adminstration is undertaking multiple efforts as part of its “Include to Grow” social policy strategy.

Earlier on Thursday, Rivas made these remarks addressing the regional gathering being carried out in the city of Asuncion, Paraguay, where she stressed the importance of a free and independent press for a transparent society.

The head of Peru's diplomacy took part at the ongoing OAS' General Assembly, in which she thanked the Paraguayan leader, Horacio Cartes, on behalf of the member countries for organizing the conference.

As part of her participation in this hemispheric meeting, Rivas held bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guyana and Venezuela.

Likewise, Eda Rivas and her Chilean counterpart Heraldo Muñoz agreed to convene the second Peru-Chile Social Integration Council (CIS) meeting, which brings together ministers from both countries.

The Peruvian minister also met the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza.
