Peru's President Ollanta Humala urged counterparts of Colombia, Chile and Mexico —Pacific Alliance members— to remain engaged in an integration process aimed at deepening intraregional market.

During his participation in the Pacific Alliance's 3rd Business Summit held in Puerto Varas, the Head of State reminded his term in office began once regional integration materialized.

"However, there are still challenges ahead," Mr. Humala added.

"Nowadays, we count on 49 Observer States from around the world, and it's true that we have to establish how to continue deepening Pacific Alliance within this intraregional market […]," he noted.

He also requested the Pacific Alliance to deepen integration and expand towards the Asian continent.

According to the Head of State, valuing bloc's small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was one most important topics covered at the event.

The President also explained intraregional economy will contribute to creating more investment opportunities, and thus turn the PA into one of the most ambitious spaces for regional integration.

"There are other integration spaces, where we [the four Pacific Alliance countries] have also participated, but this is the one that raises greatest expectations," he told the audience.

The "Future Vision" event also saw the participation of counterparts: Michelle Bachelet (Chile), Enrique Peña Nieto (Mexico) and Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia).

Pacific Alliance

Launched in 2011, the Pacific Alliance is a regional integration mechanism reuniting Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. It seeks to facilitate the free movement of goods, services, capital and people among member countries.

Full members host a population of 216 million people and represent 38% of Latin American and Caribbean GDP.
