The process of rebuilding infrastructure damaged by recent "Coastal El Niño" natural disasters has already started, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski affirmed on Monday.

The Andean country was recently at the mercy of this phenomenon characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods that destroyed infrastructure and crops, as well as left many citizens homeless.

In this sense, he noted the government is preparing tenders for works required while preventing public procurement corruption.

On the other hand, the statesman announced the preliminary budget for infrastructure rebuilding will be US$3 billion.

He underlined the sum does not constitute the final amount for the government's "Reconstruction with Change" plan, but rather an early estimate.

Likewise, the Head of State said many of these projects —like river channeling and gradient reduction— will engage the private sector.

Similarly, he stressed the reconstruction process must move forward so as to be prepared for a potential "El Niño" phenomenon event at the end of the year.

Prime Minister Fernando Zavala currently presents said proposal to Congress in Lima.
