Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski expressed his commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and building a safe, fair, disciplined and prosper nation.

“Standing here, I commit to support you during these five years in office with everything you need to achieve our dream of building a safe, fair, disciplined and prosper country,” said the Head of State.

While chairing the ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day, Kuczynski noted that even though training, cargo aircrafts and helicopters have been purchased in the last years, they still have significant challenges to overcome.

Resources, organization, discipline and first-rate intelligence is required to face these challenges, he added.

He called for courage, which they possess in large amounts, but also for prudence, since any soldier, officer, pilot or naval officer should die. “We must work carefully and intelligently,” he affirmed.

There are some issues we need to deal with, he said, such as the presence of foreign fishermen along the seashore of Peru, who take our resources to distant locations in Asia.

Likewise, FARC remnants have moved to Putumayo to set up new headquarters and turn their back on the peace deal signing set to take place Monday in Cartagena, Colombia.

Moreover, drug trafficking remnants have joined terrorists and criminal gangs along the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro River Valley, or Vraem.

The ceremony featured Defense Minister Mariano Gonzalez, Congress Chairwoman Luz Salgado, Congressional Defense Committee head Luciana Leon and military authorities.
