Peru’s President Ollanta Humala held private meetings with Ambassadors of the State of Palestine, Walid Ibrahim, and the Russian Federation, Andrey A. Guskov, after receiving their respective credential letters at the Government Palace in Lima.

The meeting with Ibrahim took place at 9 a.m. (local time) and covered topics related to relationship and trade exchange between Peru and Palestine, agreements underway and peace process in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

Previously, Mr. Humala received the credentials of the new Palestine Ambassador, in an official ceremony that included national anthems of both countries.

The formal act featured Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister, Ana Maria Sanchez, and diplomatic agents accompanying Ambassador Ibrahim, who has also served as Ambassador to Argentina and Nicaragua.

It should be noted President Humala paid an official visit to the State of Palestine on February 18, 2014 with the aim of strengthening friendship relations and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Likewise, the Head of State received credential letters of Russian Ambassador Andrey A. Guskov, who joined the ceremonial act held in the presence of Minister Sanchez and the Russian diplomatic corps.

Humala and Guskov addressed themes with regard to draft conventions –currently under negotiation–, economic-commercial exchange and launching of negotiations for an eventual trade agreement with the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia.

Bilateral relations with the Russian Federation are excellent and at the highest level following Peruvian President’s official visit to Moscow in November, 2014.

In addition, the relation with Russia is of great importance for Peru’s national interests and foreign policy objectives.
