Peru cannot relent in its efforts to improve quality of public education, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski underlined on Wednesday.

"Improving quality of public education is a good practice worth mentioning. I think this is something we cannot give in," he said during a ceremony recognizing innovative practices in public management.

Mr. Kuczynski deems it necessary to keep up with the "small progress" made in quality education over the past five years.

"We have seen improved results in the [Programme for International Students Assessment] PISA tests for the first time in Peru's history, and we have to continue that way," he noted.

The Peruvian leader said he is aware of the trouble entailed by the teachers' strike that began nearly two months ago, as well as other issues related to the [education] sector.

"I know the future of Peruvian children comes first, and we remain committed to that," he expressed.
