Peruvian pisco producers met with potential buyers from Argentina, China and Canada thanks to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2016 held in Lima last week, Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) informed.

“Our consumers are not only foreigners, but also Peruvians living overseas with a higher purchase power; thus, we have to take advantage of this,” Adex Pisco Committee President William Urbina affirmed.

The officer went on to stress the importance of carrying out a census to know the number of pisco businessmen and production areas, so that they move into the formal sector and associativity can be applied later.

Exports

In September, pisco exports totaled US$6.6 million, a 11% growth compared to the same period last year.

Pisco shipments are on the rise. Between 2011 and 2015, the volume increased 87% and the FOB amount 108%.

Chile led the ranking with 37% of total shipments, thus totaling US$2.4 million.

Likewise, Urbina added the possibility to include new destinations such as India, Norway, Dominican Republic and Curacao.
