Around 40,000 tourists, mainly from Lima, will celebrate the New Year 2017 in Paracas' beach area, the city's Tourism and Foreign Trade Chamber President Eduardo Jauregui stated.

From the total, some 3,000 people will camp at Paracas beaches, including El Chaco, Atenas, El Raspon, La Mina, Lagunillas, Supay, Yumaque and Mendieta.

On the other hand, local three, four, and five-star hotels —including hostels— are fully booked for these important holidays.

Jauregui projected around 15,000 people will visit Paracas National Reserve before, during and after New Year's.

"This means Paracas will receive at least US$6 million in revenue […]," Jauregui estimated. The amount includes money spent by tourists on lodging, entertainment, food and beverages, as well as tours.

The officer also disclosed a five-star hotel successfully offered packages valued at US$2,000 each for New Year’s.

He went on to add the majority of visitors will stay at hotels or hostels for three days and two nights.

Paracas National Reserve

Paracas Reserve is a privileged place on the Peruvian coast for nature tourism, since it hosts a great biological diversity, especially marine-coastal species.

The area is home to nearly 216 species of birds, 36 of mammals, 10 of reptiles, 168 of fish and a large number of invertebrates, which are at the bottom of the trophic chain in this important place.

Vegetation is scarce in this paradisiacal location, but a few coastal hills can be seen on top of the mountains, which serve as habitats for various reptiles, insects, birds and some mammals.

Paracas National Reserve is situated at km 245 of the Panamericana Sur Highway, and can be reached in approximately four hours by car.
