Peru's Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) informed private companies expect to hire 5,305 people with disabilities in the present year in order to meet minimum quota set by Government.

According to MTPE's Occupational Demand Survey (EDO), aimed at companies with 20 employees and more, only in Lima Metropolitan Area a total of 4,008 disabled persons will be given priority.

Other areas with the highest demand for handicapped people include La Libertad (412), Ica (368), Piura (346) and Arequipa (171).

Lima Metropolitan Area will employ the largest number of disabled people to work as telephone operators, while the most common jobs in the countryside will be farm workers and janitors, among others.

MTPE has provided employment services to persons with disabilities more effectively in order to yield better results in terms of labor inclusion.

The Ministry, through Employment Centers, keeps records of persons with disabilities, raises employers' awareness and disseminates occupational demand studies.

As is known, the rights of people with disabilities in Peru were recognized under the General Law on Persons with Disabilities (29973) in 2012, which provides that a fee of 3% of staff in private entities with more than 50 workers must be disabled people, while in the case of public entities, the minimum quota is 5% of the total amount of workers.
