Peru’s Agriculture Ministry (Minagri) welcomed South Korea and China delegations of phytosanitary organizations this week to discuss the entry of Peruvian mangoes and asparagus, respectively, into their markets.
A few months ago, in December 2014, the National Service of Agricultural Health-SENASA announced the South Korean market would open up to Peruvian mangoes.
This week, a delegation from the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA) of South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs visited Peru to inspect in situ the places where mango production occurs before placing this product in the said Asian market.
In addition, the delegation conducted phytosanitary assessments in production sites, packing companies, and mango hot water treatment plants, which will be used to establish the phytosanitary protocol for its export.
Piura, Lambayeque, la Libertad, Cajamarca and Ancash would be the first regions to send its production.
The process before official publication of the law in Korea will follow this visit. This will result in the beginning of exports.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine visited production areas and packing companies of asparagus in La Libertad, Lima and Ica to verify phytosanitary conditions.
China could become the second largest destination – after the United States – for Peruvian asparagus exports.
