Peru's Lima, Ica, Moquegua, Arequipa and Tacna regions lead the 2014-2015 Regional Competitiveness Index due to their economic performances and progress recorded in the infrastructure sector, State-run National Competitiveness Council Executive Director Angelica Matsuda announced on Tuesday.

"Economic performance registered across coastal regions poses a major influence [...]," Matsuda indicated.

Differences are marked by infrastructure gaps.

Coastal regions hold top positions due to the availability of better infrastructure, advanced communications, road networks, ports and airports.

In the ranking, Lima holds the first position (0.68), followed by Ica (0.63), Moquegua (0.63), Arequipa (0.60), Tacna (0.56), Lambayeque (0.51), Tumbes (0.50) and La Libertad (0.49). The said regions occupy the top third.
