A first shipment containing nearly 10,000 tonnes of concentrate copper —extracted from Las Bambas mine— was exported to China, MMG Limited (MMG) mining company informed on Monday.

In a press release, MMG confirmed the cargo departed from Peru's Matarani port (Arequipa region) on January 15th, 2016.

Such initiative is comprised in the set of activities linked to the mining project's entry into operation.

MMG —controlled by China Minmetals Corp— seeks to become a basic metal producer.

It must be noted Las Bambas is a major mining project based in Apurimac region, and is in charge of producing copper and other mineral resources.

Starting January 2016, Peru's Energy and Mines Ministry projected the country's copper output will pick up to expand by 65.5% over the current year.
