Hotel investments in Peru are expected to total nearly US$1.20 billion over the next five-year period thanks to country's positioning as top tourist destination, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva projected on Friday.

During the current administration, private investments in hotel infrastructure totaled US$600 million.

"This figure is expected to double to US$1.20 billion over the next quinquennium," Silva underlined.

Tourism balance

After assessing her time in office (2013-2016), she noted national tourism sector saw an expansion given Peru's "renowned historical, cultural and gastronomic heritage."

It must be noted receptive tourism grew 43% between 2011 and 2016.

In this sense, the minister reminded the Inca country has claimed several gastronomy awards.
Last year, Lima also managed to become Latin America's top destination for international conventions and meetings.
