Peru has great potential to find new oil reserves, but this requires effort, commitment and conviction of those involved in the sector, Perupetro Chairman Rafael Zoeger said.

At the opening ceremony of Peru Oil & Gas Congress, organized in Lima, he said the future “holds big challenges such as achieving energy self-sufficiency in the environmental sphere and in absolute compliance of the principle of sustainable development.”

“The new scenario forces us to think in more possibilities than in limitations and I am convinced Peru has a great potential to discover new reserves, but potential, effort, commitment and conviction of all those involved is required to realize such potential,” he stated.

Oil industry is currently facing a critical juncture worldwide, “but the positive thing about adversity is that it awakens the force and unsuspected qualities that some have gone through in this situation.”

Basins

Zoeger explained that our country has 18 basins with hydrocarbon potential, but “we are only focused on four of them, which include the majority of exploratory wells.”

“That is, 98% of exploratory wells are located in these four basins; some basin have no exploratory wells yet,” he added.
