Peru's Foreign Ministry (MRE) hosted on Monday a special ceremony to commemorate the 193rd anniversary of Central American Independence from Spain.

The head of the Peruvian diplomacy, Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel, extended his warmest congratulations to people of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, during the ceremony held in the nation's capital Lima.

According to the high government official, the five Central American countries managed to end three centuries of Spanish colonial rule by signing the Declaration of Independence on September 15, 1821.

Likewise, he highlighted the creation of the Central America's Integration System (SICA), aimed at achieving the welfare and prosperity of their peoples, which stipulates the adherence of Peru as a regional-member observer State since 2012.

He went on to add that his sector is working on an "Action Plan for Central America" that seeks to strengthen diplomatic relations and boost ties in the political, economic, trade and cultural fields with that region.

Attending the ceremony were ambassadors Melvin Sáenz Biolley (Costa Rica), Menjivar Idalia (El Salvador), Gabriel Aguilera (Guatemala), Humberto López Villamil (Honduras), and Marcela Perez Silva (Nicaragua).
