Peru's government will launch a national crusade against childhood anemia, which will involve State-run and private sectors, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala assured.

Given that anemia is a problem hindering the development of minor children, seeking its decrease should be a State policy, Zavala said.

According to the high-ranking official, this illness currently affects 43 out of every 100 children aged between 6 and 36 months.

Such disease implies suffering cognitive impairments that might harm the future lives of said minors.

Mr. Zavala went on to add Development and Social Inclusion Minister Cayetana Aljovin will be in charge of planning said crusade, and its execution will require a multisectoral approach.

The government official also pointed out this will be carried out through the Inter-Ministerial Council on Social Affairs platform. Likewise, it will involve regional and local governments, as well as the private sector.

Remarks were made during a press conference following the Council of Ministers session held at Lima Government Palace on Wednesday.
