13:40 | Lima, Oct. 26.

The Peruvian government unblocked 170 water and sanitation projects during its first 100 days in office, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski informed this afternoon.

According to the Head of State, works on said projects, already underway, will benefit a million Peruvians.

“We hereby emphasize what we had previously said during the [presidential] campaign regarding water and sanitation,” he pointed out.

As is known, Peru's Commander-in-Chief has pledged 100% water access by the end of his term in office in 2021, making
water and sanitation services one of his administration's main objectives.

Projects unblocked over the first 100 days include Pisco's Airport (Ica region), Autopista del Sol (La Libertad – Piura Highway) and Chinchero’s Airport (Cusco region), he informed.

Progress has also been made regarding Lima Metro Line 2, which previously advanced at a mere 1-km-per-year pace.

Following the government's intervention projects are moving forward at a 6 km per year, he said.

The top official also noted paving works of the National Road Network (1,450 km) are already underway. Thus, the government expects substantial progress in the subject over the next months.

Joined by Prime Minister Fernando Zavala, the Head of State gave a press conference on Wednesday to provide an overview of the administration's first 100 days in office.

Held at Government Palace's Great Dining Room, the event was also attended by State Ministers.
